New Publication on the History of Intelligence Services in Ukraine
In Kyiv, the National Library named after Yaroslav the Wise hosted the presentation of a new publication titled “War in the Labyrinths: The History of Intelligence Services 1919-1945.” This work is the culmination of years of research by intelligence historian Igor Lander, published in five volumes.
In this monograph, the author examines significant political, military, and technological changes of the 20th century, publishing unique archival documents and analyzing the impact of intelligence agencies on historical events.
The presentation was attended by Olga Mosiundz, a representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. She emphasized that intelligence services have always played a shadowy role in history, and the five-volume work “War in the Labyrinths” offers a unique opportunity to better understand the role of spies in the contemporary world.
“Even those not involved with intelligence services should read these books. They provide a different perspective on events described in history textbooks and help establish cause-and-effect relationships. This research sheds light on numerous historical occurrences,” stated Olga Mosiundz.
According to her, this important documentary collection is already available at the library of the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Lieutenant General Kyrylo Budanov.
“These five volumes provide a comprehensive understanding of the activities of various intelligence services and allow one to study history through the lens of intelligence operations,” added former deputy head of the Main Intelligence Directorate, Major General Ilya Pavlenko, during the presentation.
