Honoring Fallen Heroes on Defender's Memory Day
The Mayor of Kyiv, along with the families of fallen soldiers, laid flowers at the Wall of Remembrance for those who died for Ukraine and at the Memorial complex of Heroes of Kyiv on Hrushevskyi Street.
Today, on Defender's Memory Day, the capital honored the bravery of those who fell in the fight for freedom and independence of our state.

Together with the families of the fallen warriors, they laid flowers at the Wall of Remembrance for those who died for Ukraine and at the Memorial complex of Heroes of Kyiv on Hrushevskyi Street.
«Today, over 150 thousand Kyiv residents are defending our country at the front. We are grateful to every defender who fights for Ukraine, — stated Vitalii Klychko. — We honor the memory of all our warriors who fell for the future of the Ukrainian state. Eternal glory to the fallen Heroes!»
On August 29, Ukraine honors the memory of the Defenders who died in the struggle for independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of our state.
This date is not accidental — it marks one of the most tragic events of the Russo-Ukrainian war in 2014, when Ukrainian soldiers were ambushed while exiting the encirclement near Ilovaisk, and Russian forces fired upon columns of Ukrainian troops moving through the agreed «green corridor». Hundreds of Ukrainian Defenders lost their lives that day.
The sunflower has become a symbol of this date, as battles were fought in fields where these flowers were already ripening. The sunflower reminds us of the bravery of Ukrainian soldiers and symbolizes life.
