Veterans Forum: United Efforts for a Brighter Future
On August 8, 2025, a roundtable meeting titled «Unity for the Future: Strengthening the Veterans' Movement of the Elderly» was held at Vcentri HUB: Shevchenkivskyi. This event is part of the preparation for the First Kyiv Forum of Public Organizations for the Elderly «Unity for a Better Future», scheduled for September this year.
More than twenty national and Kyiv-based veterans' organizations were represented at the meeting. Among them were the Chairman of the Ukrainian Veterans Organization Viktor Shmakov, Chairman of the Central Council of the All-Ukrainian Organization of Disabled Persons «Chernobyl Union of Ukraine» Ivan Yatsenko, Chairman of the Kyiv City Organization of Veterans of Ukraine Valent Svidelynskyi, Chairman of the Kyiv City Afghan Veterans Union Mykola Honcharenko, and Head of the Department of Social State Guarantees and Interaction with Public Organizations Tetyana Vdovychenko.
During the meeting, participants discussed draft resolutions for the upcoming Forum, prepared by the Organizational Committee. These include the «Resolution of the First Kyiv Forum of Public Organizations for the Elderly» and the «Appeal to Government Authorities». The documents will be revised based on the suggestions and comments made, after which they will be brought forward for approval by the Forum participants.
Additionally, a decision was made to develop a Memorandum of Cooperation between veterans' organizations and other elderly citizens, which is planned to be discussed and signed during the Forum.
The Kyiv City Organization of Veterans of Ukraine, supported by the Department of Social and Veteran Policy of the Kyiv City Council Executive Body, is the organizer of the First Kyiv Forum. The aim of the Forum is to unite the efforts of veterans' organizations to enhance their role in public life and to shape policies that address the needs of the elderly.
