Commemoration of Fallen Ukrainians in Vienna
The Ukrainian community in Vienna held commemorative events dedicated to the third anniversary of the tragic events in Volnovakha, where military prisoners lost their lives.
This event, organized by the Unlimited Democracy association, took place in the popular tourist square near St. Stephen's Cathedral in the historic center of the Austrian capital. Activists set up empty chairs, each representing a fallen Ukrainian soldier. The chairs displayed their names, call signs, birth dates, and the date of death – July 29, 2022. An informational stand about the terrorist act committed by Russian forces was also installed nearby.
Another memorial event occurred the day before at the Vienna State Opera, also in the city center. Organized by the Mrija association, this event aimed to honor the memory of those lost in the Olenivka terrorist attack and to draw attention to the importance of freeing all Ukrainian prisoners. Numerous posters proclaimed: "Gefangenschaft tötet" (German for "Captivity kills"), alongside calls for the release of Azov fighters.
