A New Chapter for Veterans: Support Center in Kyiv
The Veterans Development Center at the Kyiv College of Applied Sciences has been operational for six months, serving as a platform for the reintegration of Ukraine's defenders.
The event marking the center's anniversary featured the Kyiv City Council representatives for disability rights and veterans' rights.
Lesya Petryvska stated: «This center is all about humanity. Here, no one asks about your past or what happened to you. People are just present, offering help and support, allowing you to try new things. This is crucial. I understand how difficult it is to return from the front lines, and how important it is to have a place where you are not pitied but believed in. I want veterans to feel safe and confident here, just like everyone else, without any distance».
The event also showcased the photo exhibition «Brave Faces,» initiated by the project «Doctors for Heroes.» The photographs feature portraits of heroes who have suffered facial and head injuries.
Stanislav Ryzhenkov remarked: «Returning from war is challenging. Finding oneself afterwards is even more difficult. That’s why places like the Veterans Development Center hold special significance. New stories are born here: for instance, yesterday, a veteran who received support at the college presented his first line of perfumes. This represents a new foundation beneath one’s feet».
