Unity Celebration in Kyiv for Refugee Day
In Kyiv, World Refugee Day was celebrated with a large-scale event in the central park. Shevchenko Park became a space for support and unity for all attendees.
On June 20, a significant event took place in the center of the capital, dedicated to World Refugee Day. The event was organized by the «Rokada» Charity Fund to honor those who were forced to leave their homes due to military actions.
The event featured performances by cultural groups, children's workshops, exhibitions of displaced people's stories, and opportunities for legal and psychological support. It served as a platform for sharing experiences between different generations and cultures.
«No one chooses to be a refugee… We must not only express sympathy but also actively help build a new Ukraine alongside them,» stated Natalia Hurzhiy, head of the «Rokada» Charity Fund.
Deputy Head of the Kyiv City State Administration, Marina Honda, also attended the event, receiving thanks from the fund and expressing gratitude for their collaboration. She noted that future projects would further enhance their partnership.
«Since 2014, Kyiv has welcomed over 420,000 people forced to leave their homes due to war. You have become an integral part of our community,» Marina Honda addressed the refugees.
Similar events were held in other cities across Ukraine, showcasing that support and solidarity can overcome any challenges.
In Ukraine, thousands have left their homes due to the war, and terms like «refugees» and «internally displaced persons» have become common. However, experts point out that some of these terms may be legally incorrect or derogatory, as they fail to acknowledge individuals' experiences and achievements.
