This icon has left an indelible mark in the dance world, and her artistry will continue to inspire future generations.
The eminent Ukrainian ballerina, choreographer, and ballet master Valentina Kalynovska has passed away (1938-2025).
The news of the loss of this great artist was announced by the National Opera of Ukraine.
«With deep sorrow, we announce that on June 1, 2025, at the age of 87, the legendary ballerina Valentina Fedorivna Kalynovska has completed her earthly journey. Her mastery and passion for dance have left an indelible mark on the hearts of millions.»
Valentina Fedorivna was born on July 28, 1938, in Kyiv.
After graduating from the Kyiv State Choreographic School (1957), she devoted her life to ballet.
From childhood, she dreamed of ballet, despite her family having no connection to the arts. Initially skeptical, her father eventually supported her, saying, «If you chose this profession, you must be the best!»
Valentina studied at the Kyiv Choreographic School, where her talent blossomed under the guidance of renowned teachers. Her graduation performance was a remarkable event in the ballet world.
Her successes on stage confirm that she truly was a symbol of Ukrainian ballet, bringing to life the most complex characters from the classical repertoire.
Critics believe her performances embodied virtuosity, emotion, and deep character. She brilliantly portrayed roles that remained etched in the memory of audiences.
«Valentina Kalynovska didn’t just dance; she lived each role, filling it with emotion,» remarked Larysa Tarasenko, a researcher of the history of the National Opera of Ukraine.
After her career ended, Valentina continued to work at the National Opera, passing on her knowledge to young dancers.
We have lost not only a remarkable artist but also a person who dedicated her life to the service of art.
Farewell to Valentina Kalynovska will take place on June 4 from 11:00 to 12:00 in the foyer of the National Opera of Ukraine.
Eternal memory!
