Conquering the Himalayas: Veterans' Extraordinary Journey
“We walked for 10-11 hours every day” ― the film about the conquest of the Himalayas by GUR veterans on prosthetics was presented in Kyiv.
On May 31, 2025, the pre-premiere showing of Roman Bebekh's documentary film “Everest. Limitless” took place — a film that reshapes perceptions of what is possible.
This is a story of willpower, dignity, brotherhood, and the desire to live.
The central narrative focuses on veterans of the GUR MO of Ukraine, Ivan Tarn (“Artan”) and Oleksandr Dashko (“Kraken”), who conquered the Himalayas on prosthetics: reaching the base camp of Everest (5280 m) as part of the charitable project Limitless.
“Climbing Everest was symbolic for me. A great journey has already been completed, but ahead lies the peak of victory. This is a wonderful opportunity to show society what our brothers are doing at the front. If we could do this, imagine what they do every day,” said Ivan Tarn.
Oleksandr Dashko reminded that the ascent in the Himalayas posed a serious challenge.
“This ascent should be seen by other guys with amputations. They need to know that life after amputation continues,” emphasized the veteran.
The film's author, journalist Roman Bebekh, documented the entire mountain journey that the military intelligence veterans undertook.
“It was difficult for everyone. We were all under pressure — both atmospheric and physical. But we made it,” he said.
Professional climbers who accompanied Ivan and Oleksandr during the expedition also participated in the pre-premiere showing. The group was in motion for 10-11 hours every day.
“I honestly didn’t believe that Sashko would make it. That we would succeed. I had no doubts about Ivan. I dreamed of someone like him. Thank you to the whole team! You are incredible!”, said climber Tetiana Yalovchak.
Evhenii Yerin, a representative of the GUR MO of Ukraine, thanked the organizers of the charitable project “Limitless” for their initiative and shared his impressions of the film.
“This is more than just climbing a mountain. It is a victory of the spirit and willpower demonstrated by our brothers,” he said.
The goal of the Limitless project is to draw attention to the problems faced by veterans with amputations and to raise 3 million hryvnias to combat phantom pain.
The project is implemented in collaboration with the rehabilitation center UNBROKEN Ukraine. The GUR MO of Ukraine supports this initiative.
