Enhancing Digital Infrastructure for Better Connectivity
The parliament has approved a new legislative bill aimed at advancing digital infrastructure and ensuring uninterrupted connectivity. Mobile internet is set to become faster and more reliable, allowing users to check its quality independently. This was reported by the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine.
"The parliament has adopted a critical bill No. 12094, which will promote the development of digital infrastructure and ensure reliable communication for all Ukrainians," stated the announcement.
"Internet speed will become a mandatory quality metric. A fixed minimum speed in megabits per second will be established, and mobile operators will be required to offer services within this standard," the statement noted.
Ukrainians will be able to assess mobile internet quality directly through their smartphones. Information regarding quality and speed will be sent to the regulatory body, the National Commission for State Regulation of Communications and Informatization (NKEK), for analysis.
"This will help identify weak points in the network and respond promptly to issues. We will provide further details on the mobile internet quality monitoring system later," the ministry emphasized.
The moratorium on the inspection of license compliance will be lifted. This will encourage operators to build base stations in rural areas, thus reducing connectivity black spots, the ministry noted.
National roaming will continue to operate even after the state of war is lifted. Ukrainians will still be able to use networks of other operators to maintain communication during crisis situations, as stated in the announcement.
"We hope that the President will sign the bill soon. We are working to ensure that every Ukrainian has access to quality communication and internet, even in the most remote corners of the country," the ministry concluded.
