Tragedy Strikes at Kyiv Reservoir During Fishing
Recently, a tragic event unfolded at the Kyiv Reservoir in the Vysgorod district during a fishing trip. According to the Kyiv Emergency Services, despite a storm warning and strong winds, two men ventured out on the water in a boat.
The vessel capsized due to gusts of wind, leaving both men in the cold water approximately 50 meters from the shore.
A woman walking her dog nearby heard their cries for help and immediately called emergency services at ‘101’.
Rescue teams from the 36th State Fire and Rescue Unit from Irpin and divers from the Special Emergency Rescue Squad quickly arrived at the scene.
One of the men was found and brought back to shore — he survived thanks to wearing a life jacket.
Unfortunately, the second fisherman was not located immediately. Due to strong winds and darkness, search efforts resumed in the morning.
On October 31, divers from the emergency services discovered and recovered the body of a man born in 1978.
It is important to note that as of November 1, fishing is prohibited in the waters of Kyiv and the region. This ban applies to all bodies of water in Ukraine, including the Dnipro and Ros rivers and others.
