Government's New Measures Against Gambling Addiction
The Ukrainian government has approved new regulations for participants in the gambling market, aimed at reducing instances of gambling addiction. This was reported by the Ministry of Digital Transformation.
“The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has adopted a resolution that regulates the activities of the gaming business. Its primary goal is to protect citizens from the dangers of gambling addiction,” the statement reads.
For the first time, the definitions of pathological and problematic gambling behavior have been clearly established in regulatory documents. This will allow for prompt responses to potentially dangerous changes in player behavior before the issue escalates.
According to the resolution, gambling organizers are required to monitor player behavior. If signs of severe addiction are detected, the game for that individual is halted, but winnings are still paid out.
Additionally, organizers are obliged to block account access upon a player’s request. After this, topping up their account and participating in games will be impossible.
Moreover, players will not be allowed to participate in games without setting time and spending limits. Organizers will monitor compliance with these limits and regularly remind players in their personal accounts about their playing time and spending, offering the option to continue or stop playing.
Market participants are also required to provide consultations on gambling addiction and inform players about the risks of gambling addiction and responsible gaming in venues and on websites.
