Elon Musk Unveils Grokipedia Launch
The world's wealthiest individual, Elon Musk, announced that the beta version of Grokipedia, a competitor to the online encyclopedia Wikipedia, will be launched in two weeks. He shared this update on social media platform X.
"The early beta version 0.1 of Grokipedia will be released in two weeks," Musk stated late Sunday evening, October 5.
According to NDTV, Grokipedia is being developed by xAI, one of Musk's companies, and the creator of the AI chatbot Grok.
Musk made the announcement by retweeting a post from user @amXFreeze, who described Grokipedia as "the largest and most accurate source of knowledge in the world for humans and artificial intelligence, with no usage restrictions."
"Grok utilizes vast computational resources for logical inference, reviewing sources like Wikipedia and asking itself: what is true, partially true, false, or missing?" the tweet from @amXFreeze stated.
Musk has repeatedly criticized Wikipedia's funding models and editorial approach.
His suggestion to use artificial intelligence for "navigation to find the truth" has sparked mixed reactions on X.
Some users showed support for the new competitor to Wikipedia, while others warn that Grok's training data could lead to new biases.
In July, Musk's company xAI introduced a new model of artificial intelligence, Grok 4, and announced a new monthly subscription for AI services priced at $300.
