Kyiv Authorities Maintain Public Transport Fares
The Kyiv government is looking for ways to retain the current public transport fare – no price increases will be considered until the war ends.
This was stated by the Mayor of Kyiv, Vitali Klitschko, on Telegram.
He emphasized that public transport in the capital is subsidized, with the difference between the current fare and the economically justified amount reaching 11 billion UAH per year.
«This means funds from the Kyiv budget. And in a situation where the city has lost 8 billion (to Ukrzaliznytsia!), there will not be enough funds for the planned subsidy. Therefore, the Finance Department, having analyzed the expenditures with such a deficit, has proposed to reconsider the adjustment of the current fares», — the mayor noted.
He also highlighted that an additional billion UAH is spent from the city budget on free transportation for beneficiaries, which is not compensated by the state.
«Currently, we are doing everything possible to support people in this difficult social situation. The central government has done everything to strip the city of its ability to maintain the fare for public transport. Now we are looking for ways to rectify the situation and preserve the existing fares. Because, as I have said before, we will not consider any fare increases on public transport until the war is over!», — Klitschko declared.
