06 September 2025 17:41
Starting from October 12, 2025, Ukrainians will be subject to the new Entry/Exit System (EES) implemented by the European Union. This automated database will record all border crossings into the EU by citizens of third countries, including Ukrainians.
The system applies to short-term stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period. Instead of passport stamps, digital registration will be used.
The following data will be collected:
facial photograph;
fingerprints of four fingers (for individuals aged 12 and older);
foreign passport information;
date, place of entry/exit, and instances of entry refusal.
How will this work in practice:
All passengers must exit their vehicles for biometric checks;
Rail travel procedures may vary depending on the crossing point;
Refusal to provide biometric data is a legal grounds for denying entry.
What is the purpose of this system?
to enhance monitoring of compliance with EU stay regulations;
