Alley of Heroes: Honoring the Fallen

The Alley of Heroes was inaugurated in Kyiv to honor the defenders of Ukraine. The display features new portraits of fallen soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the nation.

Initiator of the exhibition, Vera Lytvynenko, mother of a fallen soldier, noted that this is the fourth consecutive year that portraits are showcased on Sofia Square. Hundreds gathered to lay flowers and light candles in memory of their loved ones.

“This is not just an exhibition; it is a chance to connect with those who gave their lives for our freedom,” said Myroslava Smirnova, Director of the Department of Public Communications.

She emphasized that unity is essential to overcome all challenges. Each speech at the event inspired attendees to combat despair.

“Our military has shown that even in the toughest circumstances, we can fight for what is ours,” remarked a fighter from Azov, addressing the crowd.

Footage of the heroic defense of Mariupol was displayed on the screen. Each fallen soldier represents not just a name but a story and dreams that will never be fulfilled.

Stanislav Ryzhenskov, the city council representative for veterans, also addressed the attendees: “This alley is a testament to the courage of those we have lost.” He spoke about the importance of remembering and supporting the families of the deceased.

For the first time, an exhibition titled “Family of Heroes” was presented, showcasing artworks created by the families of the fallen. All proceeds will go to support the military.

Vera Lytvynenko, who organizes the event, stated: “Each portrait tells a unique story. It is our honor to remember them.”

Every day at 9 am, Ukrainians honor the fallen with a moment of silence, reminding us of the price of freedom.

The exhibition will run until October 1.
