Shmyhal Meets Duda: New Initiatives for Ukraine's Support
Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal held a meeting with Polish President Andrzej Duda, discussing the importance of supporting Ukraine's air defense and increasing sanctions against Russia.
Shmyhal announced this via Telegram.
«I am pleased to welcome President Duda to Kyiv on the occasion of the 29th anniversary of Ukraine's Constitution. I thanked him for his efforts in supporting our country in defense, humanitarian, and economic areas amid Russian aggression,» Shmyhal noted.
He also congratulated Duda on receiving the Order of Freedom from the President of Ukraine, one of the highest honors awarded in Ukraine.
«This is a well-deserved recognition for Duda's contribution to Ukraine's resilience. We appreciate his consistent support for our country's European aspirations,» the Prime Minister added.
«Duda assured that he would continue to promote the development of bilateral relations between our countries,» Shmyhal reminded.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister informed the Polish President about the daily Russian attacks on Ukrainian cities and critical infrastructure.
«Russia is increasing the number of attacks and using combined strikes with ballistic and cruise missiles. Therefore, strengthening air defense remains our top priority. We hope for Poland's participation in enhancing Ukraine's air defense,» the head of government emphasized.
According to Shmyhal, they also discussed the situation at the front.
«We expect further support from Europe, particularly through the SAFE program and the ReArm Europe plan - key EU initiatives in security and defense. We are determined to effectively utilize these tools to enhance defense production,» the Prime Minister added.
They also raised the issue of strengthening sanctions against the Russian Federation.
«I emphasized the importance of implementing the 18th package of sanctions. They need to be stronger and more impactful to increase pressure on the aggressor and force Russia to negotiate under fair peace conditions,» the Prime Minister remarked.
They specifically addressed the issue of frozen Russian assets.
«We are grateful for the launch of the ERA program, which assists our economy. However, this is not enough. It is necessary to find a clear political and legal mechanism for the full confiscation of these assets, directing them towards the reconstruction of Ukraine and strengthening our and European security,» the head of government stated.
He thanked Poland and the Polish people for their unwavering solidarity and support during the most challenging times for Ukraine. «Together we are stronger,» Shmyhal emphasized.
