Kyiv Receives New Equipment for Veteran Rehabilitation
As part of the international technical assistance project «Emergency Recovery and Reconstruction Project», Kyiv has received new equipment valued at over 3 million UAH. Specifically, 34 computers provided by the Government of Japan through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will be utilized for the rehabilitation of veterans and individuals with visual impairments. This was announced by Deputy Head of the Kyiv City State Administration, Marina Honda.
«Following preliminary meetings, the Japanese side identified Kyiv as one of the cities urgently needing support due to the full-scale Russian invasion. We agreed with our partners to focus on the rehabilitation of veterans and services for people with disabilities. Kyiv has already received 10 sets of computer equipment for the «Kyiv Military Hub». After reconstruction, there will be a spacious room for esports activities. International military rehabilitation experience shows that video games enhance attention concentration, coordination, and communication skills, which are also beneficial for psychological recovery,» said Marina Honda.
She added that with the support of the Japanese government through JICA, Kyiv also received 24 laptops with the integrated NonVisual Desktop Access (NVDA) system.
«This system allows children and adults with visual impairments – both low vision and completely blind – to use computers independently without additional specialized programs. The software vocalizes everything happening on the desktop across all applications when the cursor hovers over them. This enables users to operate the laptop autonomously, without assistance,» explained Marina Honda.
She noted that the equipment for visually impaired individuals will be transferred to rehabilitation centers in Kyiv, which provide services to people with disabilities and the elderly.
