The capital of Ukraine is set to fund free hot meals for primary school students in public schools. The Kyiv City Council has approved changes to the program "Education of Kyiv for 2024-2025." This was announced by the Deputy Head of the Kyiv City State Administration, Valenty Monderevskyi.
According to the resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, the state subsidy covers up to 70% of the costs for catering services, which in Kyiv are organized through catering. This requires additional funding from the city budget.
"The Kyiv Council's decision will provide free meals for over 65,000 primary school students. A total of 35.1 million UAH has been allocated from the city budget for this purpose. Kyiv is the first city in Ukraine to implement school meal reform, ensuring a high level of service," noted Valenty Monderevskyi.
He also added that the average cost of meals per student in Kyiv is 74 UAH. Overall, the program will benefit nearly 86,000 schoolchildren, including over 20,000 students from disadvantaged backgrounds who are already receiving free meals.
