Arrest of a Russian Agent in Kyiv Region
Counterintelligence officers of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) have identified and arrested a Russian agent in the Kyiv region. This individual had been hiding in the capital area after providing intelligence on the positions of Ukrainian Armed Forces in Donetsk. This information was released by the SBU.
According to the case materials, the detainee is a 32-year-old miner from the temporarily occupied territory of Novohrodivka, recruited by Russian special services.
Before the community was captured, the Russians engaged him through the banned social network «Odnoklassniki». There, he was contacted by a «handler» from the Russian military intelligence, who offered him cooperation in exchange for personal relations.
Having agreed, he began to relay information about the locations of Ukrainian defense forces in the city and its outskirts to the occupiers.
The intelligence obtained was used by the Russians to plan airstrikes on the community, aimed at advancing in the Pokrovsk direction.
After the capture of Novohrodivka, the agent moved to the Kyiv region, hoping to lay low and later resume his intelligence and sabotage activities in favor of Russia.
SBU officers located the criminal's whereabouts and arrested him in a rented apartment.
During the search, a smartphone containing evidence of his collaboration with the occupiers was seized.
Currently, the investigators of the Security Service have informed the agent of his suspicion under part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (state treason committed during martial law).
The criminal is being held in custody without the right to bail. He faces life imprisonment with asset confiscation.
Comprehensive measures were conducted by SBU officers in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions under the procedural guidance of the Donetsk Regional Prosecutor's Office.
