Arrest of Belarusian Spy in Ukraine
A woman who had been operating for the Belarusian security services since 2015 was arrested in Ukraine. She attempted to join Ukrainian intelligence agencies to gather information on foreign legionnaires. This was reported by GUR and SBU officials.
The name of the suspect has not been disclosed, but according to media sources, it is believed to be journalist Inna Kardash. Originally from Minsk, she worked in Ukraine initially at Viktor Medvedchuk's channel and later at the 'Interfax-Ukraine' agency. Reports indicate that even Lukashenko was aware of her activities in Kyiv.
According to case materials, she was dispatched from Belarus in 2020 for covert operations in Ukraine. During a months-long special operation, SBU and GUR security personnel documented the criminal actions of the Belarusian spy while conducting operational games by feeding her misinformation disguised as classified data.
During the full-scale invasion, her handler instructed her to travel to an EU country for additional training. She crossed the border under the pretense of undergoing a medical examination.
She was tasked by Belarusian operatives to gather intelligence on Belarusian and Russian citizens fighting on Ukraine's side. Additionally, the spy was to establish connections with employees of the Chinese embassy in Kyiv to collect information on their activities.
Upon returning to Kyiv, she attempted to join one of the Ukrainian military intelligence units, where she was detected by GUR's internal security. During the operational game, attempts were recorded to recruit potential candidates for the KGB's intelligence apparatus.
With a complete evidence base collected, the spy was arrested near her residence in Kyiv. Currently, SBU investigators have charged her under part 1 of article 114 of the Criminal Code for espionage, which carries a penalty of 10 to 15 years in prison, with or without asset confiscation.
