Tragedy in Cherkasy region: Four Police Officers Killed During Arrest
In Cherkasy region, during an operation to apprehend a suspect in a murder case, he opened fire on law enforcement officers, resulting in the deaths of four police officers. The shooter was neutralized by a special forces unit. This was reported by the head of the National Police of Ukraine on his Facebook page.
«Today, a horrific incident occurred in Cherkasy. During the arrest of the suspect, he began firing at the police. Special forces eliminated the attacker. Four police officers gave their lives to protect innocent citizens», - he stated.
As a result of the shooting, the following officers lost their lives: the commander of the rapid response platoon, Major Serhiy Safronov, and his deputy, Major Oleksandr Florinsky, both of whom were combat veterans.
Additionally, Senior Lieutenant Denys Polovynka and Major Volodymyr Boyko, who also participated in combat actions, were killed.
«This tragedy once again highlights the price of maintaining security in our country, even far from the front lines. It is a profound loss for all of us. May the fallen rest in peace», - the head of the NPU added.
He emphasized that police officers risk their lives every day, fulfilling their duties both on the front lines and in cities, during arrests and special operations.
«Every call could be the last. I extend my sincere condolences to the families of the fallen officers. There are no words that can ease your pain. We share this loss with you and will never forget the heroism of your loved ones», - he assured.
He also wished a speedy recovery to the injured colleague, Senior Lieutenant Oleksandr Shpak.
