Fraud in Kyiv: Two Young Individuals Deceived Buyers
Police officers from the Holosiivskyi district have completed an investigation and submitted a case to the court concerning two young individuals from Kyiv and nearby regions, who defrauded people by selling non-existent goods over several months. They could face up to five years of imprisonment.
According to the investigation, the fraudulent activities involved two individuals aged 18 and 24.
The perpetrators, taking advantage of the increasing demand for charging stations due to power outages, created fake advertisements on popular online platforms, communicated with potential buyers in messengers, and persuaded them to make full or partial prepayments for the «goods».
After receiving the money, the fraudsters ceased any contact with the buyers and misappropriated the funds.
Among the victims were 14 individuals from Kyiv and other regions, each losing between 3,500 to 40,000 hryvnias. Notably, there was a single transaction of 315,000 hryvnias. The total amount of losses incurred by citizens is approximately 600,000 hryvnias.
Investigators, under the procedural supervision of the Holosiivskyi District Prosecutor's Office, have informed the fraudsters of suspicion under part 3 of Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (fraud). The indictment has now been sent to court. The accused face up to 5 years in prison.
