Tribute to Taras Davydyuk in Kyiv
A mural dedicated to the memory of Taras Davydyuk, a fallen soldier and journalist, has been unveiled on the banks of Kyiv.
The image of Taras, who was the editor-in-chief of the site «Horyn.info», is now displayed in Kyiv.
He died on the front lines while on a combat mission, saving his comrades.
This tragic event occurred three years ago, on November 3, near the outskirts of Robotyne in the Zaporizhzhia region.
Educated as a political scientist, Taras was actively involved in public activities, including work with Plast.
He participated in the Russo-Ukrainian war from 2014 to 2019 and again from February 2022.
On September 29, he got engaged to Kyiv Plast member Tetyana Lushchenko before returning to the front lines. Taras stated on his page: «There is nothing more important than the war today».
Initially, the mural was supposed to be created in Rivne, but due to the city council's refusal, it could not be implemented.
Local authorities imposed a moratorium on the creation and demolition of monumental art objects.
«However, Taras's family was determined to see this project realized. Taras Davydyuk's mother insisted on bringing this idea to life», — said curator Yevheniya Fullen as quoted by Suspilne.
The media family financed the mural's creation themselves.
Artists Vladyslav Pavlenko and Tina Didenko worked on the image for four days, from November 8 to 11.
«The Kyiv waterfront was the perfect location as it is a legal area for murals and did not require lengthy permits. «We only had a few days to work», — explained the artist.
Taras Davydyuk would have turned 39. He was a prominent public figure since the early 2000s: a civic leader, Plast member, political analyst, journalist, and youth educator.
