Enhancing Educational Infrastructure in Kyiv
The city of Kyiv is currently implementing an important program aimed at constructing dual-purpose buildings in educational institutions. By the end of 2025, work is expected to be completed on seven more sites. This was announced by Valentyn Mondryiivskyi, Deputy Head of the Kyiv City State Administration, during a field meeting in the Sviatoshynskyi district.
«The Sviatoshynskyi district has become the first in the capital to build a shelter of this scale. On August 27, repairs were still ongoing here, and now it is almost a completed project. It can accommodate over 1,200 individuals. The modern space, built according to the latest safety standards, will provide reliable protection for children and adults during alarms, as well as serve as a full-fledged educational environment. After hours, various clubs will be able to operate here. Other districts can learn from this exemplary organization, which is why we conduct such meetings directly at the sites to exchange positive experiences,» said Valentyn Mondryiivskyi.
He noted that in 2025, 2.8 billion UAH was allocated for the construction of shelters with educational spaces for educational institutions. These funds will be directed to the districts as part of the Economic and Social Development Program of Kyiv for 2024–2026. Currently, construction is ongoing at 24 sites.
District administrations had planned to put 22 such shelters into operation this year, but they have partially fulfilled their obligations. By the end of the year, completion of seven such facilities is expected, including 2 in the Darnytskyi district, 1 in the Obolonskyi, 2 in the Sviatoshynskyi, and 2 in the Shevchenkivskyi.
«Despite the war, Kyiv continues to invest in education and the safety of children. In 2025, the education budget amounts to almost 38 billion UAH – which is one-third of the city budget. The effectiveness of implementing educational and safety projects directly depends on management decisions at the district level,» emphasized Valentyn Mondryiivskyi.
He also reminded that since the beginning of the full-scale war, 244 educational institutions in Kyiv have been damaged, with 74 still under repair.
