Tragic Road Incident Claims Pedestrian's Life
A severe traffic accident occurred in Kyiv, resulting in the death of a pedestrian born in 1965. Currently, law enforcement is looking into all the details of the incident. A criminal case has been opened.
The accident happened around midnight on the Stolichne Highway in the Holosiivskyi district. Preliminary reports indicate that a 29-year-old driver of a Lexus struck the pedestrian who was crossing the road at an unauthorized location.
The man sustained injuries and died at the scene.
After the collision, the vehicle lost control, veered off the road, hit a utility pole, and caught fire. Medical assistance was provided to the driver. The police also tested him for intoxication, with the breathalyzer showing 0.69 promille.
Law enforcement apprehended the driver under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedural Code of Ukraine. All circumstances of the fatal accident are being established.
Investigators from the traffic accident investigation department have initiated a criminal case under Part 3 of Article 286-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – violation of road safety rules or vehicle operation by individuals under the influence, leading to the death of the victim. The penalty for this offense is imprisonment of up to ten years.
Kyiv police urge drivers to be cautious while driving, to monitor the road situation closely, to respond appropriately to changes, and to avoid distractions while operating a vehicle. Remember that neglecting any of these rules can lead to tragic consequences.
