Preventing Terrorist Attacks: New Insights

The Security Service of Ukraine thwarted two terrorist attacks that Russian special services were planning in Lviv.
Thanks to timely actions, the lives of Ukrainian soldiers were saved from remote detonation attempts using improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
To lure the military to the targeted attack sites, the enemy employed a deceitful «date invitation» tactic.
Russian operatives created fake female accounts on popular social networks and interacted with potential «victims».
Soon, two defense soldiers separately received «invitations» to meet at locations where explosives had been planted.
Cyber specialists from the SBU detected the enemy's plan in advance, neutralized the IEDs, and secured the Ukrainian defenders.
Recall that this summer, in Kyiv, the SBU counterintelligence prevented a similar assassination attempt on a National Guard soldier, where the aggressors tried to detonate him with explosives hidden in a scooter.
During the investigation, a 19-year-old Kyiv resident was arrested for planting explosives in the vehicle, recruited via thematic Telegram channels seeking «easy earnings».
Investigative actions are ongoing to hold all culprits accountable. Comprehensive measures were conducted by the SBU in Kyiv and the Kyiv and Lviv regions alongside the National Police under the procedural guidance of the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office.
