Drug Traffickers in Kyiv: New Developments
In Kyiv's Obolon district, law enforcement uncovered an illicit lab for growing narcotic plants in a garage. During the searches, investigators found 5 kilograms of ready-to-sell product valued at approximately one million hryvnias on the black market.
The interregional group involved in cannabis cultivation and distribution was exposed thanks to the efforts of the Kyiv police and the Department for Combating Drug Crimes.
Two 37-year-old men from Kyiv organized this operation. One of them rented a garage where a specialized facility for growing cannabis was set up, which was then processed and shipped to clients across the country. They also produced and sold cookies infused with narcotics.
According to sources, the group accepted cashless payments and sourced customers through word of mouth. Estimated profits reached around 500,000 hryvnias per month.
During the raids, 5 kilograms of cannabis, 36 plants, seeds, THC-infused cookies, laboratory equipment, and irrigation and lighting systems were seized. Two vehicles, mobile phones, and a laptop were also confiscated. The street value of the seized drugs is about one million hryvnias.
Investigators have charged the suspects under Part 2 of Article 307 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. One suspect is in custody, while the other is under house arrest. They face up to ten years in prison with property confiscation.
