Enhancing Safety in Kyiv: New Emergency Police Call Buttons
In the capital of Ukraine, the installation of «Emergency Police Call» buttons continues, allowing immediate reporting of threats and summoning law enforcement.
This initiative is part of a nationwide social project implemented by the Department of Protective Police.
Currently, there are over 2640 buttons operational in Kyiv, 111 of which are accessible to the public. They are located in supermarkets, pharmacies, banks, pawn shops, gas stations, public spaces, underground passages, and even busy streets.
«Pressing the emergency button sends a signal that reaches the centralized monitoring station within seconds. From there, it is dispatched to the nearest police patrol. This often saves lives or helps prevent a crime before it can be completed,» explained Colonel Arkadiy Shakhmatov, head of the Protective Police Department in Kyiv.
According to the press secretary of the department, Police Captain Anastasia Ivanova, buttons are installed not only in busy areas but also near pharmacies, hospitals, and in residential neighborhoods:
«It’s important for everyone to know: help is just a button press away.»
The buttons are connected to backup power sources, ensuring they remain operational even during power outages. Anyone feeling threatened can use them.
