Thief Robs 87-Year-Old Pensioner Pretending to be a Neighbor
A stranger knocked on the door of an 87-year-old pensioner, pretending to be a neighbor, and asked for financial help for his sick mother. After receiving the money, the thief snatched the elderly man's mobile phone and fled. For this crime under wartime conditions, he faces up to ten years in prison.
The police received a report from the victim about the robbery. An investigative team was dispatched to the scene.
Officers discovered that the thief had knocked on the apartment door and introduced himself as a neighbor from another stairwell. He claimed his mother was seriously ill and asked for money. The pensioner, feeling sympathetic, gave him a few dozen hryvnias. However, the criminal was not satisfied and took the phone that was lying on the table in the hallway.
The police quickly identified the suspect and apprehended him in less than half an hour. He turned out to be a 34-year-old man with a previous conviction for fraud, residing in a neighboring building.
Law enforcement detained him under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine and seized the victim's phone.
Investigators charged him under Part 4 of Article 186 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine - robbery committed under wartime conditions. Currently, the issue of choosing a preventive measure is being resolved. The offender faces up to ten years of imprisonment for his actions.
