Man Arrested for Car Arson in Revenge Scheme
Police have charged a man who set fire to a Kyiv resident's vehicle as an act of revenge. The fire almost completely destroyed the car. For this act, the arsonist faces a potential sentence of up to ten years in prison.
Recently, during the night, the Dnipro police department received a report of a car ablaze on Prazka Street. An investigative team along with emergency services promptly responded to the scene.
Upon arrival, officers discovered that the Toyota vehicle was set on fire using a plastic bottle filled with a flammable substance which was ignited and placed under the car.
Subsequently, during the investigation, detectives and criminal analysts identified and apprehended the suspect – a 33-year-old resident of the capital.
According to the perpetrator, he intended to «take revenge» on the driver because he mistakenly believed the vehicle had nearly hit him on the street days earlier.
Investigators, under the supervision of the Dnipro District Prosecutor's Office in Kyiv, charged the suspect under part 2 of Article 194 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - intentional destruction or damage to property. This article carries a penalty of up to ten years in prison.
