New Phase in Ukraine-Norway Relations
Lars Hansen, the newly appointed ambassador of Norway to Ukraine, has officially commenced his duties in Kyiv.
This information was confirmed by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
On September 8, Deputy Foreign Minister Oleksandr Mishchenko received the letters of credence from the new Norwegian ambassador, Lars Hansen.
"The Deputy Minister expressed gratitude for Norway's unwavering support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as for Oslo's significant contribution to strengthening our nation's defense capabilities. The diplomats also discussed the importance of further coordinating international efforts to hold Russia accountable for its crimes against Ukraine, emphasizing the necessity of enhancing sanctions pressure on the aggressor state," the Ministry stated.
Additionally, they discussed prospects for cooperation in restoring critical infrastructure and implementing joint humanitarian and cultural projects.
Before Hansen, Helene Sand Andresen served as Norway's ambassador to Ukraine from 2023.
Ukraine had not had an ambassador in Norway for over two years until Oleksiy Havrysh was appointed to this position in spring 2025. A new Ukrainian ambassador to Finland also began his work in the summer.
It is worth noting that former British ambassador to Ukraine, Melinda Simmons, has become the ambassador to Poland.
