VI International Film Festival 'Svitlo': New Horizons for Ukrainian Cinema
The VI International Film Festival 'Svitlo' will take place from September 14 to 16 at the Ukrainian House, where viewers can choose their favorite from 30 films across various genres in the 'Audience Choice Award' category.
Organizers hope that the festival, featuring films with 'timeless meanings', will inspire audiences of all ages and strengthen their faith in victory.
Festival president Kostiantyn Shapovalov noted that 'Svitlo' is the first festival of the season in Ukraine. The program includes national and international competitions across categories: feature films and shorts (fiction, documentary, animation), as well as a special nomination for social clips.
'Those who visit the Ukrainian House will enjoy an aesthetic experience. The festival aims to promote positive moral values, whether Christian or simply human,' emphasized Shapovalov.
The opening and closing of the festival will feature two feature films, alongside animated, fictional, and documentary shorts, as well as social clips. Filmmakers from the Netherlands, Germany, USA, Colombia, and Moldova will also participate.
Festival director Svitlana Tymoshenko announced that the opening film is the Ukrainian sports drama 'Pulse' about Paralympic champion Oksana Boturchuk. The closing film will be the dramedy 'Life on Repeat' from the legendary French studio Gaumont.
Oksana Boturchuk will be present at the opening to share her story with the audience.
Deputy director Svitlana Kryvych highlighted the importance of the special nomination for social clips. 'In today's world, you don't have to be a professional director to create a short clip addressing a social issue,' she remarked.
The festival's motto 'Timeless Meanings' opens up new opportunities for young directors.
Larisa Kotlyakova, head of the communications department, added that viewers can expect another highlight: 'the screening of two animated works that have already won accolades at top festivals worldwide.'
The International Film Festival 'Svitlo' was established in 2013, with the aim of inspiring Ukrainian artists to create profound and meaningful works.
