Arrest of a Criminal in Kyiv During Wartime
Prosecutors from the Kyiv city prosecutor's office have reported suspicions against a 32-year-old resident for committing robbery during martial law (part 4 of article 186 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
It has been established that the suspect met a former soldier who was injured in his legs during combat and now uses a wheelchair. When the acquaintance took out his wallet to count cash, the suspect snatched it and attempted to flee, assuming the victim would be unable to pursue him. However, the robber was quickly apprehended.
The law prescribes a punishment of imprisonment for a term of seven to ten years.
It is noteworthy that the suspect has a history of criminal offenses, including robberies and fraud, and committed this robbery while having an unexpunged conviction.
The court approved the prosecutor's request for the strictest preventive measure – detention.
The preliminary investigation is being conducted by the police in Kyiv.
Note: According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in accordance with the law and established by a court verdict.
