A man called the emergency number 112 claiming he intended to blow up a shopping mall in the Obolon district of Kyiv. The report turned out to be false, and the perpetrator was quickly apprehended. He faces up to six years in prison.
Recently, police in Kyiv received a report about a supposed bomb threat at one of the shopping and entertainment centers in Obolon. During the conversation with the operator, the anonymous caller revealed his intention to detonate the building.
The authorities promptly relayed the information to all relevant services, who inspected the premises and surrounding area, finding no dangerous or suspicious items.
Officers from the criminal police department of the Obolon police quickly located the false bomber. He turned out to be a 38-year-old man from the Kyiv region with a history of convictions, who was inebriated at the time. He was unable to adequately explain his actions to the authorities.
Investigators detained the man under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine and charged him under part 1 of Article 259 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – intentionally false information about a threat to public safety or destruction of property. He could face up to six years of imprisonment for the crime.
