New Exhibition by Sasha Lunova: Art from the Ceiling
Sasha Lunova unveils a new series of works that captivate with their originality and emotional depth, inspired by the space of her own bedroom.
The Contemporary Art Center 'White World' hosts the exhibition 'From the Ceiling', marking a significant step for the talented Ukrainian artist and a member of the gallery team.
This time, Lunova draws inspiration from the ordinary, gazing at her ceiling adorned with unique wallpaper. The intricate patterns sparked her creativity, leading her to translate vivid images onto canvas.
The exhibition features paintings that blend naive and surrealistic elements, creating a unique atmosphere between reality and fantasy.
"I simply lay there and looked at the ceiling, letting my imagination paint. The project 'From the Ceiling' speaks about trusting one’s own perception. Sometimes you just need to look up," shares Sasha Lunova.
This series of works emerged spontaneously, without following traditional compositional logic. Unlike her previous projects, which were born from text, this one started with a visual encounter, giving rise to a new wave of characters: bright, candid, and sometimes fragmented, like memories from dreams.
The exhibition curator Jeremy Dirak provides a poetic text accompanying the project, attempting to make sense of this unique space:
"These are thoughts that are cousins to dreams. Strange beings that emerge from the unknown in our consciousness. Sometimes they appear fully formed and ready for a party. Other times — only fragments of shapes; just those pieces that matter…".
The gallery emphasizes that 'From the Ceiling' skillfully plays with contrasts: art descends from the heavens — both literally and metaphorically. The white walls of 'White World' reflect the artist’s world — a realm of naivety, sincerity, and whimsical 'madness'.
