Zelensky Discusses Cooperation with Serbia
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky spoke about his conversation with Serbian leader Aleksandar Vucic, who recently attended a parade in Moscow.
Zelensky reported the conversation on social media, as per "European Truth".
According to the president, they discussed issues related to European integration and cooperation between the two countries.
"I spoke with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic. We discussed current matters – our European integration and bilateral cooperation", – Zelensky wrote.
"In particular, we talked about collaboration in the Ukraine – Southeast Europe format. We plan to develop it further to improve effectiveness. We agreed on a schedule and committed to staying in touch", – he added.
Vucic was one of the few European leaders to attend the May 9 parade in Moscow, despite warnings from the EU.
Following his visit to Moscow, he declared that Serbia remains committed to its EU accession plan and aims to expedite the process.
Russia is a historical Orthodox ally of Serbia and a primary supplier of natural gas, with companies like "Gazprom" and "Gazpromneft" also owning the Serbian oil company NIS. Moscow supports Belgrade in its opposition to Kosovo's independence. In return, Serbia consistently refuses to join EU sanctions against Russia.
Vucic has previously expressed confidence that Serbia's European path will not be hindered by his visit to Moscow.
