Zelensky to Attend NATO Summit in The Hague
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is set to attend the NATO summit happening at the end of June in The Hague, Netherlands.
This was announced by Dutch Defense Minister Ruben Brekelmans in an interview with the Dutch broadcaster WNL.
Zelensky at NATO Summit in The Hague
“NATO is looking at where in the program [of the summit − ed.] Zelensky can have a prominent place,” noted the Dutch minister, confirming the plans for the Ukrainian leader's participation.
He mentioned that the presence of U.S. President Donald Trump is also expected at the summit.
However, Ruben Brekelmans did not respond to the question of whether there will be a separate meeting between Volodymyr Zelensky and Donald Trump in The Hague during the summit.
The NATO leaders' summit is scheduled for June 24-26, 2025, in The Hague, Netherlands.
Zelensky Might Not Be Invited to NATO Summit for the First Time in Three Years
Earlier reports suggested that the President of Ukraine would not be invited to participate in the main discussions of the NATO summit for the first time in three years, which will take place in the Netherlands in June.
The summit aims to showcase unity within the alliance. Ukraine's involvement could potentially create tensions, especially with President Trump, who advocates for negotiations with Russia and opposes Ukraine's membership in NATO in the near future.
Since the onset of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Kyiv has been consistently present at NATO summits.
In 2022, the Ukrainian delegation participated virtually in Madrid. In Vilnius in 2023 and Washington in 2024, President Zelensky attended in person. Last year, the leaders' meeting also included sessions in the NATO-Ukraine format.
