OpenAI has launched its upgraded models GPT-4.1 and GPT-4.1 Mini for ChatGPT. The GPT-4.1 version is available exclusively to ChatGPT Plus, Pro, and Team subscribers, while the Mini version is accessible to all users, including those without a subscription.
According to the company, GPT-4.1 shows improved performance in code writing and debugging, executing commands faster than previous versions. Consequently, OpenAI has decided to discontinue support for the GPT-4o Mini model.
The first appearances of the GPT-4.1 models in the API occurred in April 2025, although the company faced criticism for lacking a safety report. In response, OpenAI clarified that GPT-4.1 is not considered a "cutting-edge model", thus it does not require the same level of review as more advanced systems.
