OpenAI has launched a new, simplified version of the deep research feature in ChatGPT. This feature is available to all users for free, but it comes with usage limits.
For paid subscribers, the simplified version will automatically activate when the full deep research usage limit is reached. "Responses will be shorter, yet maintain the same depth and quality you are accustomed to," — states OpenAI.
The tool operates on the o4-mini model — a streamlined version of the larger o4 model, which results in reduced processing costs. Consequently, this enables OpenAI to increase usage limits.
