Microsoft Unveils New Voice Assistant for Healthcare Professionals

Microsoft has launched a new voice assistant tailored for healthcare professionals. This innovative tool combines the functionalities of Dragon Medical One with advanced ambient listening technologies.

Named “Dragon Copilot,” this assistant will facilitate quick access to essential information for doctors and automate the creation of clinical documents such as notes and referrals. This initiative is part of Microsoft’s strategy to alleviate the administrative burden that often leads to burnout in the medical field.

Research from Google Cloud indicates that healthcare providers spend up to 28 hours a week on administrative tasks, including paperwork. Dragon Copilot aims to help doctors focus more on their patients by reducing time spent on computers and records. The technology allows users to edit notes using natural language and ask questions about diagnoses or treatments.

In 2021, Microsoft acquired Nuance Communications, a company specializing in these technologies, positioning itself as a key player in the medical documentation automation market. DAX Copilot is already in use across more than 3 million patient visits, and with the new interface, Microsoft hopes to differentiate itself from competitors like Abridge and Suki.

Dragon Copilot will be accessible via a mobile app, web browser, or desktop. Healthcare professionals can leverage this technology for automatic clinical record creation and efficient medical data processing. The system is set to launch in the U.S. and Canada in May 2025, with plans for expansion to other countries.
