New Deputy Head Elected for City Accessibility Committee
The City Accessibility Committee in Kyiv has appointed a new deputy head. The position has been filled by Hennadiy Yevseyev, president of the All-Ukrainian organization for visually impaired people «Generation of Successful Action». This was announced by Lesya Petrivska, the Commissioner of the Kyiv City Council for the rights of persons with disabilities.
Lesya Petrivska emphasized the importance of collaboration between authorities, experts, and the public for making decisions concerning accessibility. «We are focused on constructive joint work,» she stated during a Committee meeting.
During the meeting, Committee members discussed the response from the Ministry regarding the use of current building codes for creating safe pedestrian paths. They plan to experimentally implement new solutions for pedestrian crossings in Kyiv.
Additionally, accessibility leaders from district state administrations reported on their work in 2023 and provided information about the accessibility levels in various areas of the capital.
Lesya Petrivska added that Kyiv must not only meet modern accessibility standards but also serve as an example for other cities in Ukraine. «The City Accessibility Committee is working to make Kyiv more inclusive. We must identify problems and seek joint solutions to address them,» she added.
The committee's work includes representatives from the City State Administration, Kyiv City Council deputies, and public activists.
