Corruption Scandal in Kyiv Administration
The Kyiv city prosecutor's office, in collaboration with the SBU investigators, arrested a Kyiv city administration official and the director of a municipal market for accepting a bribe of $25,000.
In 2023, an entrepreneur rented municipal property to establish a food service outlet at this market.
It later turned out that the main entrance to the food service outlet is located in an arch of the market building, which belongs to another tenant—the Tourism and Promotions Department of the Kyiv city administration. This department uses the arch for advertisements and promotions, which obstructed access to the future food service outlet.
To “resolve” the access issue, the tourism official suggested the entrepreneur meet and “buy” the right for unhindered access to his premises.
To implement this illegal scheme, she also involved the market director, who was supposed to act as an intermediary and use his official position to facilitate the transfer of property.
Both were arrested during the money transfer. A notice of suspicion is being prepared for committing a criminal offense under part 4 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
