Trump Urges Apple Not to Expand Production in India

US President Donald Trump has stated that he urged Apple CEO Tim Cook to refrain from expanding iPhone production in India, despite the company's plans. Trump shared this information during a press conference in Qatar, according to Axios.
According to Trump, he personally told Cook: "Tim, you are my friend, I have always treated you well. But I do not want you to build factories in India." The President emphasized that the US has long accepted Apple producing products in China, but is now uninterested in shifting production to another foreign country.
These remarks came amid news that Apple intends to significantly expand its production in India to supply smartphones to the US. The company views this decision as a replacement for Chinese manufacturing due to tensions between the US and China and new trade restrictions.
At the same time, Trump mentioned a potential new trade agreement between the US and India, under which the Indian side allegedly would not impose tariffs on American goods.
Following Trump's statements, Apple shares fell by 1% in pre-market trading. The company has yet to comment on the situation.
