Ukrainian President Meets with Italian President: Strengthening Ties
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, held a significant meeting with the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella.
The Ukrainian leader emphasized that this meeting reflects the deep friendship and mutual understanding between our nations.
«I appreciate your support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity. I want to thank the entire Italian people, the Prime Minister, and you, dear President, for the assistance provided to our country. Your stance on Putin's aggression is crucial», – stated Volodymyr Zelensky.
He also highlighted Ukraine's efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace, pointing out Russia's refusal to engage constructively while continuing its aggression. Therefore, he believes that only through increased sanctions can progress towards peace be achieved.
The leaders discussed the efforts to return Ukrainian children illegally deported to Russia.
Additionally, they talked about the establishment of a Special Tribunal for Russia's aggression against Ukraine. The President called on Italy to ratify the agreement to establish the tribunal to ensure it can begin operations as soon as possible.
Zelensky expressed gratitude to Italy for organizing an international conference on Ukraine's reconstruction, stressing the importance of involving Italian businesses in this effort.
The Italian President noted that over 500 Italian companies would participate in the conference, promising concrete agreements and outcomes.
The heads of state also discussed Ukraine's path to the EU, including fulfilling all conditions for starting membership negotiations and the necessity of exerting more pressure on Russia to limit its military capabilities.
