Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced on Wednesday, July 9, that "all diplomatic avenues" for resolving the Russia-Ukraine conflict have been exhausted, pledging additional support for Ukraine.
This statement was made during budget debates in the Bundestag, where he highlighted the importance of making decisions to assist Ukraine.
Merz assured that Germany will continue to support Ukraine despite the resistance from pro-Russian factions in parliament.
"We must objectively assess the current situation. We will make crucial decisions. Our support for Ukraine will persist," he stated.
The Chancellor emphasized that "there are currently no options for diplomacy".
"Diplomatic avenues are exhausted when an aggressive regime threatens the existence of an entire nation using military force. My government will do everything in its power to prevent this," Merz added.
Recall that Defense Minister Boris Pistorius stated that Germany would provide Ukraine with additional military assistance worth 1.9 billion euros.
Germany is also engaged in "intensive negotiations" with the US regarding the provision of Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine.
