Lithuanian President's Optimism on US-EU Trade Negotiations

The President of Lithuania, Gitanas Nauseda, hopes that the trade conflict between the United States and the European Union will be resolved quickly through negotiations.

In an interview with Lithuanian broadcaster LRT, he remarked that "this economic tension, if we can call it that, could end through constructive dialogue".

Nauseda emphasized that "there are no winners in this situation, regardless of who started it. This has been proven throughout history".

It is worth noting that amid rising tensions between the US and the EU, on March 25, in Washington, EU Trade Commissioner Maros Sefcovic will meet with his American counterparts – US Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick and US Trade Representative Jameson Greer.

Earlier in March, Trump imposed a 25% tariff on steel and aluminum imported into the US.

In response, the European Commission announced on March 12 that it would impose tariffs on iconic American products, including Harley-Davidson motorcycles, jeans, and bourbon.

When Trump threatened 200% tariffs on all "wines, champagne, and alcoholic products" from France and other EU countries the following day, the European Commission decided to postpone countermeasures until mid-April.
