New Opportunities for Cooperation with Japan in Ukraine's Recovery
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved a new agreement with Japan to receive a grant of approximately 58 million dollars.
This grant will be used for the restoration of infrastructure and other facilities damaged during the war, as reported by the Prime Minister of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal.
“Today we are making an important decision for our recovery. We are approving an agreement between the governments of Ukraine and Japan to secure a grant worth 8.8 billion Japanese yen, or about 58 million dollars,” he stated.
Shmyhal explained that these funds are provided by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to finance reconstruction projects.
He thanked Japanese partners for their consistent support for Ukraine.
Details of Japan's Support for Ukraine
On January 21, Ukraine and Japan established a platform for implementing recovery technologies for Ukrainian infrastructure.
On January 10, the Japanese government imposed additional sanctions against several individuals and entities due to Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
These sanctions affected foreign partners of the Russian Federation.
In October 2024, the Japanese government decided to provide over 3 billion dollars to Ukraine as part of G7 financial support.
Additionally, Japan's Minister of Defense Gen Nakatani announced at a NATO defense ministers' meeting further supplies of vehicles to Ukraine.
