US President Donald Trump has declared his intention to impose tariffs on goods from European Union countries.
Source: Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump highlighted the unacceptable trade situation with the EU.
Trump's direct quote: "Am I going to impose tariffs on the EU? You want an honest answer or a political answer? Absolutely. The EU has treated us terribly".
"They do not take our cars. They do not buy our agricultural products. Essentially, they take almost nothing from us. We have a massive trade deficit with the EU. So we are going to do something very significant regarding the EU".
Details: Trump explained that imposing tariffs on EU products is aimed at correcting the trade imbalance for the US.
Reminder: The United States plans to implement tariffs on imports from Canada, China, and Mexico starting February 1, as previously announced by Trump.
Trump also claims that his administration will introduce 25 percent tariffs on imports from Mexico and Canada starting tomorrow.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau stated that Ottawa is prepared to respond to the tariffs but warned that the country faces "challenging times".
