Strike on Key Russian Energy Facilities
In the night of October 19, the Ukrainian defense forces targeted crucial energy infrastructure in the Samara and Orenburg regions of the Russian Federation, as well as a fuel base in the temporarily occupied Berdyansk in the Zaporizhzhia region. This was reported by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on social media.
In the Samara region, the Novokuybyshevsk Oil Refinery was hit. Preliminary reports indicate that the primary oil processing units were affected. Explosions and fire were observed at the site.
The Novokuybyshevsk refinery produces over 20 types of products, with an annual processing volume of 4.9 million tons.
“The extent of the damage is being assessed. The facility is involved in supporting the needs of the Russian army,” the General Staff stated.
Another target was the Orenburg Gas Processing Plant, one of the largest in Russia, capable of processing up to 45 billion cubic meters of natural gas and 6.2 million tons of gas condensate per year. It has been preliminarily established that one of the gas processing and purification units was affected, with explosions and a significant fire reported. Regarding the fuel base in Berdyansk, there are also reports of explosions and fire at the site.
