Ukrainian Defenders Achieve New Milestones in Drone Defense

On the night of August 20-21, thanks to the efforts of Ukrainian forces, nearly 50 Russian drones were shot down during a massive attack on the Kyiv region. This was reported by Mykola Kalashnikov, the head of the regional military administration.

“The forces of the ‘Clean Sky’ project successfully intercepted almost fifty enemy drones. I thank our defenders for their dedicated work and ensuring safety for the residents of Kyiv region,” he noted.

According to him, the alarm lasted for over 7 hours, but no hits to critical infrastructure or residential areas were reported. There were no casualties among the population.

It is worth noting that the ‘Clean Sky’ project was launched in the spring of 2025 as a response to the tactics of enemy kamikaze drone attacks. The military uses interceptors to destroy enemy drones in the air to prevent harm to civilians and infrastructure.

In May, the head of the regional administration announced the formation of new units and the training of new interceptor operators. He also mentioned that the project’s experience is already expanding to other regions.

On August 18, Mykola Kalashnikov reported that since the project began, nearly 900 enemy drones have been intercepted.
